You're the newest delivery driver for SpinTop Priority Shipping LLC. Hop into your brand new SpinTop Delivery Vehicle and get ready bounce all over town delivering packages. Sometimes literally!

Controls

  • W/A/S/D or arrows to move
  • space to jump. The top can double jump (costs spin). Hold to glide in top mode (uses spin). Hold to bounce in ball mode.
  • Z + X or QE or the mouse buttons to switch between top mode and ball mode. The top mode comes in both a clockwise and counter-clockwise spin, which matters when hitting walls.
  • C or Shift to stop in top mode, or boost in ball mode. Works on the ground or in the air. This consumes spin. Stopping in the air consumes more spin.
  • move the mouse to turn the camera, `~ to re-center it
  • Esc to pause

Controllers are supported:

  • Left stick - move
  • Right stick - camera. Click to re-center
  • A - Jump
  • B - Stop/Boost
  • L/R (bumpers) - switch modes

These assume a Nintendo-style controller. You may need to swap A/B on other controller types

Tips

General
  • Conserve spin as much as possible. There are rechargers (orange swirling cones) in every major area of the city, and it's a good idea to try and get to the pickup location with a full spin gauge.
  • During a delivery, a transparent ring-shaped arrow appears around the SpinTop Delivery Vehicle. The thicker side points towards your next goal.
  • Keep an eye out for powerups:
    • The Clingy powerup (green dots) allows you to cling to walls and move along them in different ways.
    • The Spinfinity powerup (orange swirl) keeps your spin gauge maxed out. This allows you to break and boost as much as you want, and the Top's glide loses almost no altitude
  • The  Ball and the Top have the same max speed under normal circumstances, but the Ball hits it much faster. You don't lose speed when switching modes
  • When you're out of spin, the top moves much faster than the ball
  • You can use the top's break to shed spin if you need to move with less speed and more traction
  • You can skip to any of the 8 delivery missions from the high scores screen. This is a great way to skip a delivery if you're stuck.
Top Mode

Top Mode (CCW)

The SpinTop Delivery Vehicle in counter-clockwise Top mode
  • The more spin you have the faster you move, but the less traction you have
  • The top can spin clockwise or counter-clockwise. This affects what direction you move when you hit a wall
  • The top is less likely to bounce off of a wall if you approach the wall at an angle
  • The brakes consume spin, but instantly stop the top, even in midair. Stopping in the air uses twice as much spin
  • Your glide loses altitude faster the less spin you have, but has much tighter steering than the top does on the ground
  • with the Clingy powerup (green dots), the top moves horizontally along walls, and can be pitched up or down to slowly climb or descend
  • Your top speed when using a wall to accelerate is higher than your normal top speed
  • The top has arrows to show your spin direction
Ball Mode
Ball Mode
The SpinTop Delivery Vehicle in ball mode
  • The more spin you have, the faster the ball rolls
  • The ball consumes spin constantly.
  • When driving directly into a wall, the ball will climb it a bit. With the Clingy powerup (green dots), the ball will climb the wall until the wall or the powerup ends
  • Holding the jump button cause the ball to bounce off floors and walls. This can be used to gain height
  • When backing into a wall, the ball will be pushed downwards. This is rarely helpful
  • The ball has a wide turning radius, but near perfect traction. If you jump and turn in the air, you'll start moving in the new direction immediately when you land
  • The ball's boost is the fastest way to move, but is weaker when you have less spin. It can be used in the air.

Assets

This games uses the following pre-made assets:

Sound Fonts
Code

The menu, dialog, and camera systems were ported over from previous jam games I've worked on, as well as some general utility functions (most of which I had to re-write anyway to get the gravity working).
